Call for Papers on Urban Development as a Key to Achieve Sustainable Development Goals

Folowing a successful first conference in 2014, the SUSCO Budapest 2015 international conference on sustainability will focus on cities, more particularly on the key challenges of sustainable (contemporary) urban development. Prior to the conference, the organizers would like to spread and deepen knowledge about the respective field through an essay-writing competition.

The ten best short papers will be published in March 2015. Upon the publication of the essay-collection, the best three papers anticipating analytical and policy-oriented approach for one of the indispensable issues of sustainable urban development, will be rewarded 75 000 HUF, 50 000 HUF and 25 000 HUF, respectively.

Papers should focus on the following topics of sustainable urban development:

  • Local economic development
  • Sustainable transportation
  • Solid waste management
  • Urban poverty alleviation and the revitalization of neglected space
  • Housing and green public space
  • Urban resilience
  • Short food supply chains and conscious consumption

The short papers should not exceed 2750-3000 characters (approximately 550-600 words) in length and should be submitted until 14th December 2014. Final results will be announced on 10th January 2015.

The authors of the selected papers will be enrolled in a workshop in early February 2015 in order to identify the main stakeholders in the urban transition processes and the level of their engagement.
